The Outsiders teaches the everyone that reads the book that family, even if they aren't family by blood, is the most important thing. When going through hard times, if you have a family you can rely on, you can get through it. In the story, Ponyboy had this two brothers and his best friends to help him whenever he needed someone to get him out of trouble. By all of the friends and families in the book being there for each other through the deaths and the "war" between the two sides of the town, they were able to be victorious and live happily once they realized that by being there for each other was the best thing they could do for all of them.
